Hello, iam fresh new icloud drive user and need help.
Here is the reason for what i need the drive:
I need it for pure backup, no sync, no share nothing. To keep my local disk free.

I installed the iclod app on my pc. An icloud drive apeared in my explorer. I log to web to icloud and moved my files to it, to backup it there.
Later on i figured that everything what i uploaded via the web was in my local icloud drive folder, so i deleted them to clean up my hdd.

As you already guess it was deleted as well from apple servers, so i lost the files.

I need help, how to set it in proper way to fullfil my requiremnts of the pure backup and keep my local hdd empty.

Thx

Hey there,

Sadly you cannot just use iCloud Drive to store files (which is ridiculous, Apple should know better) however there is a service called OneDrive - that'll do the trick. Have a Google. :)

I don't know how the windows version works, but I just drag files to the iCloud drive and they get copied there.

You uploaded them to iCloud drive via the web and than deleted them from iCloud drive in explorer and wonder why they are gone? Maybe I am missing something but please explain again what you did with your files and what you deleted. What you want can easily been done with iCloud drive but just let me know again exactly what you did and will I gladly help.

I'm sorry but I can store any file I want in iCloud Drive just fine, don't bother posting if you don't know what you are talking about yourself. You work for Microsoft?

Icloud drive confusion

I uploaded the files via web, not to the explorer icload. After some time, i saw in the explorer local icloud same files. So they were at apple servers and in my computer. Doubled. So i deleted them from icloud local, since it is synced it deleted them from the idrive as well.... Thats how i think it happens... On the new fresh W install i didnt installed the icloud now and uploading the items only via web, this should work ..

The iCloud drive folder in explorer is NOT local storage therefore everything you see in iCloud drive in explorer is stored in iCloud only. It's there so you don't always have to go to the website to upload/download files. The website is normally used when you are not working on your own PC e.g at university, at work etc.
If you delete data from iCloud Drive in explorer it is also gone from the website because they are the same thing. I don't know why you are confused about this but turning icloud drive off in explorer is making your life much harder for no reason at all
icloud Drive in explorer = iCloud drive on the website ;)
