Hello, when I drag a large file of photos I have from my USB drive to iCloud Drive from the Finder sidebar it seems to take up space on my actual hard drive rather than the space on iCloud. I would presume this isn't normal?

This is the way it works. It stores it on your hard drive and then syncs it to iCloud.

Thank you for clarifying. I never saw a progress bar when I moved files over so that's why I was confused.

That is one of the issues with iCloud. You never know when things are happening. The only real way to make sure your files are copied is to go to icloud.com and look there.
