I love icloud drive on my iMac, it's saved me many times and makes finding stuff I am working on easy.
BUT

Yesterday I updated my Macbook to the latest Version of sierra and my hard drive went from 25% full to 80% full and it's still rising.

All my files from my imac desktop are on the Macbook desktop, all the files from my iMac documents seem to be on the MacBook.

How the hell do I stop this?

There is no way that I want my desktop stuff on my macbook. I use them for different things, my macbook is mostly used for writing and I do everything else on the iMac

This feature is called iCloud Desktop and Documents.

It's a very cool feature in my opinion, but if you want to turn it off, see the instructions at the bottom of this page.

Alternatively, if you want to keep the feature but use less disk space, make sure "Optimise storage" is turned on in About This Mac > Storage > Manage.

Thanks, sorted now

you are right it is cool but it does have it's drawbacks if my macbook was my main device it would be perfect , unfortunately my imac is and that has way more stuff on it so it just fills the macbook .
