Not to resurrect an old thread, I am quoting a post from here by @Rics
Does anyone know if the instructions below still work reliably? If not, how can I accomplish creating an iCloud Drive alias on my desktop?

"For anyone that will need to do that in the future (done with Monterey):

Go to: /replace-with-your-hd-name/System/Library/CoreServices/Finder
On Finder icon: right click and click on "show package contents"
Go to: /contents/Applications

You'll see "iCloud" app icon, then you can do 2 things (or both):
  1. Right click on the iCloud icon and click on "create alias", this will place an alias on your desktop
  2. Click and drag the iCloud icon to your dock to have the shortcut on your dock"

No one…?

Why don't you just try it out? It is pretty simple instructions.
I did. It works at first glance, but I'm concerned about unforeseen issues on the newer OS. I'm not sure how Apple has changed behind-the-scenes syncing with every iteration of the OS.

Honestly, I was hoping that I was missing something simple, and there was a official way to accomplish it

Shortcuts are very simple, and haven't changed in maaaaany years.
LOL, true. Just concerned because it involves my data. Not looking for any corruption. Wondering why Apple didn't provide a regular, or a menu bar icon for iCloud Drive...

Likely because you can have Documents folder in the Finder window sidebar. Or you can drag it to the Dock. Or just use Spotlight. Making the Desktop your dashboard is the way of Mac OS 9. :)

And always have backup of your stuff!
