Hi!

I would like to know your thoughts around the Cloud services.

My regular email is with iCloud; but I have found the app on iPhone relatively limited.

Any thoughts on the other services?
Thank yoU!

iCloud (50gb) for my personal files.

Google Drive and Dropbox for impersonal files, and projects.

OneDrive for work files.

I use iCloud because I'm paying for one storage pool that can hold my photos and also files that I need available on my devices.

Luckily I only have Apple devices so this works for me. But if you have a mix of devices, Google is probably the best option.

I am really interested in iCloud 50 gb to back up my photos and for ease of access amongst all my devices..

Does apple compress the photos in any way? Currently I use flickr which from my last bit of research doesnt.

Nope, iCloud stores your photos bit for bit without modifying them. It does create smaller versions as previews and thumbnails too, but your original files will always be untouched and pristine.

This is another thing that I prefer about iCloud Photo Library over Google; Google's storage is free but they recompress your images. That's totally unacceptable to me.

But they do also offer the option to upload full original quality. Of course it is not free but neither is Apple.

This doesn't make much sense to me: you are comparing Google's free option to Apple's paid option, which is not really a valid comparison.

It's like me saying I prefer Google Drive; Apple's My Photostream is free but they delete images after a short time. That's totally unacceptable to me. :)

This is a frustrating one for me..... I have to use both.

iCloud works better for me for iPhone/iPad backups... and for my Desktop/Documents on my computers, so I pay for iCloud Storage for those.

But Apple Photos and Apple Mail are terrible compared to Google Photos and Gmail.... so I pay for Google Drive storage for those.
