For some peculiar reason iCloud Drive on my m1 MacBook Pro in finder isn't uploading files, they just sit there either with a solid lined cloud or a dotted lined cloud has anyone got any idea how I can fix this?

Do you have the Finder window status bar showing (Finder > View > Show Status Bar) at the bottom of the window? This allows you to select one of those files you're trying to upload to view the status. A solid lined cloud means it's uploaded into iCloud Drive and available to download.

I have that on but it just tells me how many items and how much space I have left

Based on your description of the icons, it sounds like they have been uploaded correctly. What icon are you expecting to see?

sorry should have been more detailed all of my files have an arrow and the size of the file on them I've attached a screen shot of it.

Thanks, that screenshot is very helpful. That 8.93GB file may take quite a while and is likely holding up the others. This Apple Support article, particularly the section titled If Your Files Don't Update to iCloud Drive, maybe helpful to you.

Thanks for that, led me down a rabbit hole with Apple chat but managed to found that the "bird" process was the problem, ending the task has managed to push all the files at speed to the cloud. It seems when the process is running the upload service stops.
