iCloud Drive Question

Hi,

I installed OS X Yosemite on a partition on my mac, but when installing I accidentally upgraded to iCloud drive. I haven't installed pages on Yosemite, but if I do, does that mean I will not be able to access those documents on Mavericks and on my other devices running iOS 7?

Even though you don't install Pages, you won't be able to access the documents you might had saved before you upgraded to Yosemite on other devices. Only iOS8 devices and Yosemite devices will be able to open your documents from now on...

Yep, the iCloud drive upgrade is in regards to the back end system (i.e. Apple's servers). All your iCloud data is now limited to Yosemite and iOS8.

iCloud data you see on iOS7/Mavericks devices is not the same data on iOS8/Yosemite. Think of it this way; once you clicked to upgrade to iCloud drive all your data at that point in time was copied to the NEW iCloud drive that's accesible only by iOS8/Yosemite. You still have an OLD iCloud drive that iOS7/Mavericks is using, but don't bother with that cause as soon as iOS8/Mavericks is released, they'll delete the OLD iCloud drive.

I guess so, wouldn't do it myself. Apple writes following: After you install the OS X Yosemite Beta, you will be asked whether you wish to upgrade your account to iCloud Drive. If you choose to upgrade your account, iCloud Documents and Data will be disabled on devices that are not running OS X Yosemite or iOS 8. iCloud Drive will be available only on other Macs using the OS X Yosemite Beta and iOS devices running iOS 8. If you want to continue using iCloud Documents and Data on devices with earlier versions of OS X and iOS, you should not upgrade your account to iCloud Drive.

But since you have already enabled it - I'm not sure what will happen if you install Pages.

Actually, it's best not to use it on any iOS7/Mavericks devices as that copy of iCloud will wind up being deleted.

If you upgraded to iCloud Drive it no longer matters, your data on any non-Yosemite or iOS 8 device will no longer sync to iCloud. Installing Pages on Yosemite has nothing to do with it.

I upgraded to iCloud Drive and now all my old iCloud documents are gone. Why would that be? Why wouldn't apple sync over your documents to the new system when users upgrade? Why the need to start completely fresh? I don't really care, since I didn't have any important iCloud documents, but it just seems strange to me.
