iCloud Drive questions

I currently use Dropbox and Google drive to share files or keep them in a safe place but after seeing the Apple announcement today of 99 cents/month for 50GB of iCloud storage I have a few questions.

I haven't seen any share sheets in apps that have a "save to iCloud" options but plenty of "save to dropbox".

I know you can upload files from icloud.com directly or through Finder on the Mac.

Am I missing something or is there no easy way to get files up to iCloud drive directly from an iOS device?

I believe that is up to the app developer to add compatibility, do they not? I know that microsoft did for their office apps a while back.

You are telling me its hard to drag a file to the "iCloud Drive" folder in Finder? Not trying to be rude, but it is as easy as can be.

Speaking of the new pricing, when does that kick in? I just checked and it's still on the old pricing on my iOS devices. Maybe when iOS 9 officially releases?

I believe comics addict is correct in that developers have to add the functionality into their apps, similar to how not all apps/games back-up their data to iCloud. In iOS 9 they are adding an iCloud Drive app, but I think that's only making easier to locate the files you saved to iCloud Drive so you don't need to open the associated app and then hunt for your file.

So does this mean official Apple apps (Pages, Keynote, etc.) will have the "Save to iCloud Drive" option in the share menu? If not, I really don't see much of a point to the app unless you do most of your computing on an OSX device.

It's fine man. I'm just trying to get some input from everyone. I just find it odd that Apple can hardcode share options like message, e-mail by default but not copy to icloud drive.

Here's my issue with iCloud Drive. There's no recycle bin (is there?). What happens if you accidentally delete a file. Are you just SOL? Or do you go to your synced folder on your Mac and dig it out of the recycle bin?

You can go to iCloud.com>settings web app> and look for your iCloud drive recycle bin there. It holds deleted files for thirty days afterwards.

I use Documents by Readdle, you can easily send files from other apps to it, and then copy it to iCloud Drive.

You can even access iTunes music and Photos from inside the app.

It's free, there's also similar app called Good Reader which is paid.

Thanks, I had to google for half an hour and browse this forum for quite a while to find an answer to my problem. It's a shame that Apple does not include a simple "upload to iCloud drive" function in its photo app. I don't want to use the iCloud photo stream because I want to upload only select photos and access them with the Finder on my MacBook.

What other free apps are able to do that? I like to have choices and select the app that suits my needs best.

Yeah, but why should I have to do that? Why can't it just be like Onedrive or Dropbox where deleted files are sent to the recycle bin on my computer? And why can't I access the recycle bin from the iCloud Drive app on my phone? I mean there's a recently deleted items folder for photos. Why not for files?

You'd be surprised. I know some Apple engineers who do in fact roam these boards. It's a big company.
