iCloud Drive questions

Hi

I have just spent a few days sorting my desktop and document folders so everything I need (except photos) are in there and now synced to iCloud. Very cool, very happy.

For photos though I can't have them on my iMac as there are too many, they are on an external disk. Is there a way to tell iCloud to also sync this disk? Or a way to upload files to iCloud without them being on my iMac?

I know there is the photo app but my mac is quite old (2011) and the app is super slow with the few thousand photos on there from my iPhone/iPad. I have another 150,000 photos to add and the very thought is a nightmare.

So can I add files to iCloud from an external hard drive without them being on my iMac's hard drive?

You have to change the photo apps settings to point to the external drive. Once that's done it'll then sync back and forward without an issue.

Thank you, but I would like a way to add files without the photo app as it doesn't work well on this machine. Imagine it was, in fact, 150,000 PDFs of washing machine manuals. Is there a way to sync these files from an external hard drive to iCloud Drive without putting them on the iMac in the documents folder?
