Title sums up my question. To save SSD space, possible to have files only in iCloud online?

Even with dropbox (if you use the app), files are stored locally with copies in the cloud. If you limit yourself to the browser/web access, dropbox can be cloud only.

Not sure if icloud drive has a web UI though...

DropBox - You can select which files/folders are stored locally. By default its everything but it can be changed in preferences.

You can't do selective folder sync in iCloud like you can with Dropbox. So, basically, if you delete the file locally the copy on iCloud is also deleted.
