I had trouble with Onedrive. It literally took months to get everything uploaded (~400gigs). I got a new Mac and copied the already uploaded and synced Onedrive folder to it, and after a month of waiting, restarting, etc. it never synced correctly. So I am looking for a new cloud sync service. My questions are to those with iCloud Drive experience, how robust is the sync? How fast is the upload? Does it handle a large number of files well? Thanks for any advice.

I always copied the files/movies to the iCloud Drive folder on my rMBP. Then let it upload from there. The speed wasn't bad. But, my 6-8gb movies took awhile. However, like most cloud storage it also took up space on my RMBP. So, I went back to the 50gb for .99. May not even keep that. But, is was reliable. Ones like Dropbox gave me issues uploading the movies. I would have kept it if it didn't duplicate files/movies on my rMBP. I have 6mbps upload.
I've found it to be quite robust, upload seems to max out my 20Mbps uplod
I've had a great experience with it so far. I don't usually use it for large audio and video files, but I do have a ton of very large PDFs (multiple GBs in size) that never take more than a minute or so to upload. Whenever I've used it to store the random larger file (like a few home movies), those haven't taken long either to upload. In my experience the upload works just as well as (if not sometimes better than) what I experienced with Dropbox. I was already paying for increased iCloud storage for iOS backups and Photos, and realized it didn't make sense for me to pay for Dropbox when I was already paying for plenty of cloud storage for my needs from Apple. Only thing I wish it had would be selective sync for those of us who store more in the cloud than our computers can hold, but I personally haven't run into really needing this yet, and prefer to have all that stuff stored locally on my Mac anyway so it can back up to Time Machine. Hopefully they'll add that in a future release though.
I posted a similar thread on the Apple forums and based off of all the responses I've took the plunge this morning and purchased the 1TB plan. I'm beginning by importing my photos and videos to Photos, which is 265 gigs. I have a 3TB fusion drive in my Mac so the files will be located both locally and in the cloud. I also have a NAS and am backed up to USB, which is great unless something were to happen such as a fire or tornado. I like the security of having a cloud backup and I want to be able to edit documents on the go and have everything synced. We'll see how it goes, getting everything uploaded. Thanks for the responses.
