The recent updates with OneDrive have made me re-consider the possibility of using iCloud Drive (Documents and Desktop) as my cloud synchronisation and storage for all of my Macs and iDevices.
It seems to do everything I need, including the possibility of having everything stored locally, by de-selecting "optimise my Mac", so that I can make local backups.

The only doubt I have is that it is not very transparent as to synchronisation progress and/or issues.
Has this proved to be a problem for you?
Any other issue I should be aware of, before I pull the trigger?

Thanks

I've had issues this very week, and there are ongoing issues reported for iCloud at the moment. But I'd say that issues with iCloud Drive in general aren't that frequent, it's overall pretty stable. It's a nice option if you're heavily invested in Apple ecosystem, but be aware that iCloud Drive online or on PC is an okay but nowhere great experience. You will see all your files, but the UI is not as intuitive and powerful than on iDevices.

I am 100% in the Apple ecosystem and no intention of getting out of it any time soon.
I figure that as Apple is moving forward (for right or for wrong) players such as OneDrive or Dropbox will always be playing catch-up.

All of that said, not everything Apple makes works as it should.
It takes a long time to switch 1TB of data from one cloud supplier to another, and I would like to get it right.

This is not promising:

I am new to iMac. My iDrive syncs maybe 20% since purchase 18 months ago. Also discovered Apple Genius Bar nor their tech support are geniuses. Customer service performs worse then their Dropive. Anyone has a fix for this?

I've had zero issues with syncing over the years, and I have and do use a ton of devices. Not to say that I haven't heard of people having issues, but I use it a lot and haven't had any issues.

Thanks.
I’ve transitioned my data onto it shortly after my original post and everything is working just as expected.

I wish I could say the same. 2 trips to Genius Bar who said not hardware issue and simply referred me to Apple support online. Get a different tech with each response who starts from scratch no resolution. Up to 15+ case numbers so far. Going in circles since i discovered issue Dec 2019.
