Hi, I am looking to completely change my iCloud e mail address and don’t want my old address to be in use anymore. I note there is an option in my phone settings to change and remove e mail address. If I do this I am assuming I can change to a new iCloud e mail but what happens to the old one? Do I need to do something else to delete it? Thanks for any help.

You can create a new "Alias" address and begin using that as your email. The old would still "exist" but you can ignore it.

As far as truly eliminating the old one - it's possible, but if the @iCloud.com email is your primary email you need to get Apple support involved; it's not something you can delete on your own. I'm not sure what the criteria are for removal; I know it's been done if someone's name changed (marriage, divorce) or for typos, etc. If that's the direction you want to go, call Apple to get that ball rolling.
