My wife wasn't getting email through iCloud. Her storage was full. So I changed my plan from 50 to 200gb, and added her to family share. Her mac and phone are showing that she is a member and that we have 150gb available, but she is still not getting email (a day later) and when I try to send her an email I get it bounced back saying she is over quota.

Any ideas?

Did you check to see how much storage her iCloud mail app is using? She could try deleting the mail app and re-adding it, or try Reset All Settings, both as troubleshooting steps.

Yes. Have over 150gb free.
That wasn't my question though. That's your total available storage for your family account. How much storage is her Mail app using? Also I edited my post to add a couple other suggestions hoping to get those edits in before you responded, but you are quick on the draw!

281.7mb

So if her total Apple Mail storage is almost 282MB, not GB, then it sounds like another iCloud app is using a lot of storage. When she looks on her Mac or iPhone's storage graph, what's the largest storage hog?
She is using around 4gb total for all apps. Messages is the largest, around 3.5gb

And just to confirm, this is Apple Mail, not a third-party email app that was added to the Apple Mail app? If so, try the suggestions I made above and let us know what happens.

Yes, stock apple mail app. I don't see any edits to the post, the only link I see is checking available iCloud storage. Thanks

Here's the troubleshooting suggestions I added: "She could try deleting the mail app and re-adding it, or try Reset All Settings, both as troubleshooting steps." I'd back up first of course.

I have to say the storage behavior acts like her account only has 5GB storage, not 50 or a portion of your upgraded family account. Does she have more than one Apple ID?

Does she have more than 1 iCloud account?
no, but she does have 2 email addresses attached to the 1 account ****@me.com and ***@icloud.com. If I send an email to her @icloud.com address, she gets it. If I send to the @me.com address, I get the over quota kickback.

Forgive me for asking this, but is the first part of both of those email addresses exactly the same, i.e., jane@me.com and jane@icloud.com? It's behaving as though they are separate Apple IDs each with its own storage quota.

Yes, they are the same. And both are listed as email addresses in the mail app, phone app and web iCloud login.

When you say both are listed in the mail app, under Settings > Mail > Accounts shows as 1, and in the detail, shows only one iCloud account? If it's something different than that, a screenshot (with the account name redacted) might be helpful to see.

The @me is her apple ID. When I go to iCloud web mail and go to settings > accounts, both email addresses are listed there. On the mac when I go to mail app > preferences > accounts, only one address is listed and it is @me.com.

It sounds like they're set up OK. I'm assuming her phone also only shows the primary Apple ID address. But I'm stumped at this point why the @me.com is behaving so wonky. I'd suggest contacting Apple Support unless someone else can chime in with another suggestion.

I guess that is the next step. Another odd behavior is that she can email herself through webmail, but not through the mac app or phone app.

I'm having the exact same problem. I maxed out my data and was not able to receive new emails (over quota delivery error). I upgraded to the 200 gb plan but I can still not receive mail on my mac.com or me.com addresses. The iCloud.com address seems to be working. I spoke to apple support and they have not been able to resolve...callback planned for Nov 11th which will put me at ~1week without email. :(

We had several chat and phone call sessions with various levels of support until they kicked up to the engineers and then it was fixed in about 36 hours. She ended up going about 7 days without email.

Did they give any indication why the apple id email acct wasn't registering that the data plan was expanded? I've tried everything...one of the first people I spoke with suggested I use the iCloud.com email address instead. I've used the mac.com address for 12 YEARS! I would have to update my email address with hundreds of contacts.

They said it was an access problem with their servers and the engineers would have to fix it. There is nothing you can do. The problem is in server administration. You just have to get them to send it to the engineer level.
