Hi,

I am very new to macs, just upgraded to Lion on my iMac and iOS5 on my iPad, have set up iCloud but can't get emails to sync at all.

If an email arrives on the iMac first i don't get it on the iPad and vice versa. I have both the iPad and iMac configured to my virgin.net email account. In the end I set up a rule to forward all my emails on my mac to the iCloud email account which worked to get everything across, but it is still really hit and miss if I get them on both. If I do get an email on both but open it on one it doesn't update the other device to say the email has been read.

Would any one be able to help me get this sorted. I am not sure if I have just set iCloud up wrong or not. I have tried deleting the account from both devices and then resetting it up but nothing seems to be working.

Thanks

I'm no email expert so someone may well correct what I say here!

It sounds as though you are setting up your email account using the POP3 protocol rather than IMAP.

POP3 just pulls email from your mail server and holds a local copy.

IMAP allows you to directly access email on your mail server and if copies are held locally they can be synchronized with the server.

Not all email providers allow for the use of IMAP.
