I've searched Google and forums and can't find a clear answer on this;

We're a family of 4 with me being the main iCloud family account holder. They've been members of our iCloud Family for years (for purchasing etc.) and i'm now interested in moving them all over to one single iCloud Storage plan. However right now 3 of them (myself included) all pay for our own iCloud Storage. If I invite them all to participate in the "family Storage" in my account, what happens

1. To their existing plan, does it automatically get canceled?
2. Their existing storage used; does it automatically get moved to my storage or do their devices have to transfer all of that again in my storage?

There's no clear description as to what happens.

I spoke to apple about this the other day. They told me that when you have everyone switch in their icloud setting to the family plan the other plan with get cancelled automaticlly

Anybody actually do this and confirm the behavior (both previous account cancelling and what happens to storage ) ?

Is a family plan cheaper? I didn’t even know this was an option. My wife and I have our own iCloud accounts.

Migrated myself and two others - as soon as you switch the other accounts to the shared plan their plan is cancelled. Pretty painless process.

Migrated myself and 3 others who had their own plans. We were set as a family prior to this for app sharing etc. I'm the "leader" so to speak. I upgraded my own plan to 2TB and then "invited" the others to share the plan by selecting for them to share the plan from my phone. They got an invite which they then clicked through and all their stuff was migrated into the 2TB plan. I then received a few emails to notify me that their plans had been cancelled and I received pro-rata rebates on each plan. Very painless.

Perfect. That was the answer I was looking for. Thanks.
