Looks nice . I haven't tried it because I am on Safari so I am just going by the pictures; have you considered making the cloud icon a different color when you have unread messages? More or less like the Gmail Notifier extension works (grey icon for no messages and colored icon for messages).

Ahh, Great Idea! I'll see if I could implement something like that in the future. I'm still fairly new with Javascript lol.
