Hello,

I'm new here so I hope I'm doing everything correctly.

So I've had my iPad 3 over a year now and have only just started to use iCloud, I'm trying to back up some app data because I want to restore my iPad to its default state as I've had a lot of apps closing themselves off recently (off topic but has anyone else had this problem since ios7?)

Pics have a few questions, when I go to my iCloud settings via my iPad and choose storage and backup - manage storage as you know you see a list of your back ups, then underneath that is a heading titled Documents and Data and underneath that on mine is some data from the game Sprinkle Islands which I'm not sure how it appeared there as that's my vey question, how do you just save Documents and Data? All I know how to do is a Back Up, I've no idea how the Sprinkle Islands data got there, how I did it or how to do the same with more apps. I a,m including a picture to further explain what I'm talking about, I hope I upload it correctly!

My main concern is that before I restore my iPad to default I want to save app data for an app called 'FrameMagic' I have the perfect settings on here and I wish to be able to save those and recover them once I have restored. I don't know if I can do this by just doing an iCloud backup or whither I have to do something else. I just have no idea how to just save app data without doing a backup, or if it's even possible, and what that heading under Back Ups is all about.

Thanks for your time, I'm stressing about these apps closing themselves off! I'm worried there's an issue with my iPad.

I just can't find anything else to do other than backup the iPad, so I've no idea how to save more app data under Documents and Data like a Sprinkle Islands is!

An app will only show up under Documents & Data if it is explicitly programmed to save data in iCloud.

If I understand correctly you want to back up only some app data, but not the device settings etc. Unfortunately this is not possible with iCloud backup. While you can prevent unwanted apps from being backed up, you cannot turn off backup of settings etc.

The only thing that sometimes works is to save the content of the app's data directory to a computer using a tool like iExplorer, reinstall the device and the app fresh, and then write the saved app data back. But depending on how the app is written, there is no guarantee that it will work correctly.

But I would recommend first trying something else: Delete all apps except the one you want to save, and then do a "Reset all settings". That should do most of what you want.

That's right, i wanted to be able to save my data for the app FrameMagic so that if I were to do reset, I could do so and the recover the app data to that particular app so I don't lose my settings. I have lots of games and Apps ticked to save documents and data but only Sprinkle Islands is saving its data, no other apps are and I don't understand why?

By deleting all apps I don't want and doing a reset of the settings, what will this do for me? Will it possibly fix apps closing themselves down? Is this what you meant?

Thanks so much!

The Sprinkle Islands data is there because S.I. is an iCloud-enabled app that is keeping some of it's data in iCloud. It has nothing to do with backup. iCloud Backup saves everything that it can, regardless of whether or not an app uses iCloud.

The Doc&Data section has nothing to do with iCloud backup. It's just regular iCloud storage that apps may use to store data to make it accessible across multiple devices. I don't know Sprinkle Islands, but I'd guess that it saves its game progress in iCloud, so you can continue playing on another device if you want.

I don't know. I have never seen such a problem. But it's worth a try. You can always restore from a backup if it doesn't work (I would recommend to make a backup via iTunes though, because it's much faster than iCloud backup).
