Hi- decided to give iMatch a shot. I have mostly Apple lossless cd rips, but I have some mp3's either from a while ago, or things friends have given me. I decided to give the iMatch a whirl to upgrade these to a better copy, and to make sure all my tags are good.

I have a pretty big library- 15K songs. So it is still going, but I am in part three. I guess I am anxious to see how this all works. So, how do I get iMatch to rerplace the mp3's with 256K versions? How does that work? Is it pretty seamless and automated?

Also, I noticed when I went to turn on the iMatch on my iPhone, it wanted to erase all my tunes on my iPhone. Why is this? SCared me, so I did not do it. I sync my phone with a different computer than my master library... mainly because my master library is all appple lossless... so I concerted many songs I like to 128 bit variable and put that on my macbook pro to sync to my iPhone. I have one playlist there I LOVE for running... any way I can make sure I do not loose this playlist?

OK, so how does it work if I iMatch on my iPhone? I am jailbroken and unlocked on an iPhone 4 on TMo... so that means I will ONLY have Edge. Will this bee too slow to stream? Should I keep the tunes on my iPhone i have now, or d/l from iMatch? If so, is edge fast enough? How would you do this?

Thanks for the primer!

Dave

First, iTunes Match won't automatically replace your songs. You'll have to do that manually. There's an easy way to do it though. link

Second, it states it's going to remove your songs, but in my experience, it actually doesn't. Of course your mileage may vary.

Third, the cool thing about Match is that your playlists are synced across all of your devices. Just create a "running" playlist in iTunes or on your device and it will show up everywhere.

Fourth, Edge may be too slow to stream but only you can test that. If you realize it is, just download the tracks to your device that you want to keep on there. (I have a good connection with ATT and I still have multiple albums stored just in case.)

OK, so I think I have a problem! I went ahead and let my iPhone delete all the music- and it DID delete it all- so nothing is there! Then it gives me this warning:

THIS DEVICE IS ALREADY ASSOCIATED WITH AN APPLE ID

You can use iTunes iMatch on this device with just one Apple ID every 90 days. This device can be used with another Apple ID in 58 days.

WTF is this? Did I just blow out all my music, and Apple won't let me have any for two more months?

Sorry to barge in on your thread but I have an unrelated question and didn't want to start a new thread.

Does iMatch stream music from the cloud or does it only play the song as it downloads it to the phone?

This may help. Taken from Apple Support Community:

"Possibly relevant.... I had a similar issue after enabling iMatch on my iMac, iPad and iPhone. The iPhone gave me this error and seemed to be confused between two AppleIDs. I resolved it by going to Settings:Store, select and View AppleID, and then Remove This Device from iTunes in the Cloud."

Edge might work but if you are streaming a song or a movie forget about getting sms and phone calls unlike 3G Edge can't support that. Something to think about if you get a lot of calls or sms

I can't use iTunes match on my iPhone for another 51 days :-(
