iCloud Keychain - Dedicated App

I asked this in another thread in regards to iOS 8.

My question now pertains to Yosemite. Do we see any real improvements to iCloud Keychain? I'll take anything at this point.

Here is my wish list taken from my other thread:
- Implement a GUI, something similar to 1 Password
- Possibly a standalone app
- More options for password algorithms
- Possibility to store credit card CEV/CVV codes
- Better functionality across all devices
- iCloud.com access

I have the public beta on a separate partition, but have barely looked at it due to my busy schedule.

Edit: I see everyone's point that Keychain Access handles these things. Maybe I would just like to see a revamped app.

This is my biggest gripe and doesn't not seem to be resolved an iOS 8 or Yosemite.

You're right, however, Keychain access leaves me feeling lackluster. I'm thinking something specifically for iCloud keychain with a design similar to 1Password.

Edit: For example. One of my online bank accounts does not allow for storage of passwords. If I create one in Keychain Access on my iMac, great! I can reference it whenever I need to login from my iMac, however, when I try to log in with the specially generated password in Keychain Access on my iPhone, it's a no go. It does not show up in my phones (iCloud Keychain) stored passwords. See what I am saying? Sloppy integration.

I'm taking that as a no and possibly no improvements?

It should show up on your ios device. Your bank account does not save passwords so if you did it manually in keychain access than maybe you done the wrong one. Safari only syncs with WEB FORM PASSWORDS (ios or mac), you will not be able to see other items you made in keychain access.

If I encounter a website that doesnt allow the safari suggested password I use 1234 (or something similar) so I can save it in my keychain. I than go to keychain access, find the web form password item, use the password generator to create a different password and save it and it syncs perfectly. I never knew I can do that until recently, obviously I still need to go to the website and update from 1234 to this new password via copy and paste.

Of course there is always room for improvements.
1) I would love having secure notes to also sync with ios
2) integrate the password generator right into safari so I can skip the steps I mentioned in my second paragraph for a website doesn't allow the standard safari suggested password.

I'd like to see keychain access released for iOS and the icloud website. Inability to access the passwords directly on my device it what keeps me tethered to using 1password across the board.

I'd love to get keychain on the devices then i can remove 1password from my mac.

But you can access your passwords (safari-settings-passwords & auto fill-saved passwords) on all ios devices, or do you mean non apple products

Not necessarily. If you manually create passwords in Keychain Access in OS X on a Mac, it will not show up in iOS's safari-settings-passwords & auto fill-saved passwords section.

Adding a Keychain Access application to iOS and also allowing us to access it through the web would solve these problems.

That's my biggest problem. I think I should be able to manually generate login credentials in Keychain Access on my Mac and then also be able to view them on my iOS device or iCloud web portal.

I already use iCloud Keychain the way it was intended. I'm simply asking for better integration and implementation. Is that too much to ask for?

What crazy login thing do you want to create in keychain access? Any web form password, either saved from safari OR created from scratch in keychain access, syncs perfectly. This is really all you need, for other stuff there is secure notes. Why are you not more specific instead of complaining that people don't give you a solution to your apparent problem when all they can do is offer tips.

My problem is the OS X Keychain Access manually created passwords will not sync to my iOS devices. If I am doing it wrong, I will gladly take correction.

Sure Keychain Access can get the job done, but it's NOT user-friendly at all. The solutions mentioned in this thread are fairly complicated and nothing I'd ever recommend my mum to use. So most people will still either re-use passwords or get a 3rd party password software.

Maybe I'm not the only one who thinks keychain access is a mess. I guess if it won't be native, I should just look into a third-party application.

No problem I didn't want to come of as an a, just wanted to help.

I'm not sure why your manually created web form passwords don't sync, they should as long as it's a webform password. Is it an entry with the blue @ sign?

I also def recommend you to look at secure notes, they have them now in icloud section in keychain access so they sync between your macs, not ios yet. It's pretty handy I use that for my bank account details, social security numbers etc.

Also I do agree that keychain access could be more user friendly however I would not recommend this for your parents or less tech savy people. Even 1 password and last pass will cause more trouble for such group of people.
Also if you look for alternative third party solution I would skip 1 password and use last pass. It's multi platform, cloud supported and the best 3rd party password manager around.

^ Agreed. I caved in a few years back with 1Password 3 (or 2, I forget), and love it. My only gripe is the lack of native support, meaning anything in iOS Safari has to be retrieved from 1Password, requiring opening the app, entering the one password, searching for the login, copying the password, double-clicking back to Safari, pasting the password. In OS X, it works seamlessly with Safari. Hoping that developers can take advantage of Apple opening iOS 8 for more functionality (1Password beta 4.5 for iOS is making use of Touch ID, which makes it perfect). Having Keychain Syncing and 1Password can be frustrating at times.

Keychain access is a mess yes, but it gets the job done. A revamped app would be nice, but not so sure on how likely that is on happening.

If I'm at a desk without access to keychain and I want to access something, I can look up my password on my macbook. If I only have my iPhone or iPad I can't look up the password and I can't log in to the site (on the computer I'm sitting at--I can log in with my phone or pad).

Even if I decide to copy and paste from the app on my iMac, the entry that was manually created in Keychain Access does not show up on my iOS devices in Safari>passwords and auto-fill.

I agree. They obviously wanted a password manager or they would not have released iCloud Keychain. Buying 1Password would just add another reason why a Mac could be considered a premium computer.

yes you can look up you password on your iphone and iPad, Settings-Safari-Passwords&Autofill-Passwords.

It does make sense, but maybe your bank doesn't allow it. Mine uses two step verification and iCloud keychain doesn't work for it either. Im sure this would also cause trouble for last pass and 1password.

In regards to the point you didn't understand. In keychain access a web form password is the entry with the blue @ sign. These are the entries safari creates when you save a password. If you create a new entry manually in keychain access and enter the URL for the website it will normally create a web form password. I attached a picture so you can see what I mean (by the way not my keychain, just a pic of google). Only these entries will sync with safari, autofill on all devices or allow you to look up the passwords under Safari settings. Other entries will not sync and are mainly entries for network passwords, osx facebook\twitter integration etc. If you have created the correct entry for your bank, its a web form password and it still does not autofill than its probably the website like i mentioned above. You can maybe try to create a manual entry for another website, like amazon, and see if it syncs and autofill.
