I changed my password of my apple-id using the random password generator within iOS 14.2. Now I'm locked out of my account from all my devices since it seems iCloud Keychain has synced with the old password even on the device I did the password change on.

1. Has anyone else had a similar issue?
2. Is it possible to somehow get access to the different passwords that was generated on my phone without being able to log in to my apple-id?

It seems my phone is semi-logged in still, as that's where I did the change but since it synced with the old password I still can't do anything that requires and additional log in.

I've tried password reset, but there was a problem with that too, and I have to wait 24 hours until the account reset process has gone further before even apple support can do anything more.

Did you check for any other appleID.apple references? Try searching Apple and look at the date modified and see if it pulls up the new password. Do you have another iOS device you can check?
yes, I checked. All listings has the old password, and I've done the same on all the other devices. On my ipad the password doesn't show up at all for any apple-listing and on macbook and mac mini through safari it's the old passwords.

And it says last time it was changed was the date for the change to the previous password. Which is wrong.

Hopefully, Apple will be able to assist you in getting your account password corrected.

I had the same kind of problem years ago with Keychain doing such to me on several websites. As such, I quit auto accepting the generated password. I make sure to write down the password first, and put it in a password manager. You should do the same going forward.

Yeah, it seems like I’ll be able to get access to the account tomorrow but I’m frustrated with iCloud keychain. It has so much potential but it’s sad to encounter these kinds of issues and having to rely on separate password management.

Keychain is nice when it works like it should. As much as you may not like the idea, with a password manager storing your keychain passwords, you would still have access to your passwords should Keychain completely get messed up or you lose access for some reason.

Right there with ya, brother (sister). It's extra work and pretty ridiculous considering Keychain is supposed to eliminate the task of managing your passwords but I use 1Password as a backup and like @Apple_Robert said, log new passwords generated by Keychain before saving. This has saved my bacon more than a few times.

On top of that, write it down OUTSIDE of your phone in case something should happen and you have to restore. I've been burned by this as well but got lucky because my wife had requested my Apple ID password to rent a movie and I was able to go back through our messages on her phone to retrieve it. The last thing you want is to have to go through Apple for this, as you well know.

Apple - not always good!

I noticed iPhone settings showing that some passwords had been compromised, including the Apple one. So, I decided to change the Apple one first and went through the procedure, which includes verification via phone number, email, credit card registered with them, etc. The procedure didn't work and I received emails saying that there is a period of time to elapse before it can be reset.

That was 24 hours ago and now I've received a message that it will be dealt with on 25th Dec - 4 days outage in total!

Meanwhile all Apple facilities are dead for every Apple device I have - no Apple app updates, no iCloud syncing of photos, books, music, spreadsheets, etc. Also all third party apps that were authorised through Apple have to be reset individually if I want to use them (Google, YouTube, etc).

I'm not the only one to have discovered this abomination:

Good system, eh?
