I have setup a friends iphone
He purchased extra storage for icloud, as he was getting errors , on space
He syncs hes iphone with an iMac running maverics and also using iPhoto

We have switched on icloud photo library on the phone
My understanding is that
iPhoto does not work with iCloud Photo Library

So we will have to turn on "save a copy of the photos on the iphone"
then turn off iCloud photo library on the iphone , so we can continue to sync photos with the imac and iphoto !!!!

i hope thats easy to do , otherwise i have caused a big issue
photo stream and icloud is on, and all the photos have synced to the iMac via the photostream
will this continue to stream to the iMac and so the photos will sync there anyway

thanks for any advice

its a pity that icloud.com does not allow you to download multiple images , as thats what we could do - otherwise its one at a time

Has he considered upgrading the operating system on the Mac so that he can use iCloud Photo Library there? That may actually be easier than trying to work around the incompatibility.

Thanks for your very fast response

I'm not sure if the iMac will upgrade to the latest version.
Its quite an old machine

My research seems to indicate that I would
1) setup keep orginals on the iphone and allow those to download onto the phone
2) Turn off the icloud photo library in the settings
3) Then it should sync with iPhoto as before

Hope thats correct
