I've searched but cannot find the answer. I have two iCloud email addresses. One, which is also my Apple ID, is the old me.com format. The second is icloud.com. I now want to be able to send emails from the iCloud address as well as the me address. At present, I can receive iCloud emails, because they automatically redirect into my me.com inbox. I am using Big Sur. I understand about setting up aliases, but this is different. Is having the option to send from one or the other possible?

Thanks for any help.

Are the @me.com and @icloud.com address the same except for the domain? Do you see the @icloud.com address in Mail > Preferences > Composing > Send new message from? If so, you can either leave that setting at Automatically select the best one, or specify the @icloud.com address if you prefer.

You can also select the From address in individual emails by tapping on the From dropdown to select which address you want to use.

Thank you. Yes, they are the same apart from the domain. I’ve tried what you suggest, but the icloud.com is not there. If I go to System Preferences>Apple ID>Name, Phone, Email it is listed there.

If you go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account information tab, there's an email address there. If you select the drop down there, are both of your email addresses displayed?

There's another thing to check too. In that Account information tab, when you tap on it to see the email drop down list, there's an option to Edit Email Addresses. Select that, and you will be prompted to log into iCloud.com. It should take you to the Mail settings, and in those settings, you should see a toolbar at the top as General, Accounts, Composing, Vacation, and Rules.

Tap on Composing. You should see a section there titled Send From. That section allows you to set your default Send From address, and allows you to check other addresses to Send From. Make sure the @icloud.com version of your address appears there.

Once you've done this, you should see a dropdown in the From field when you compose a new message in the Mac Mail app.

side note: Although there's a default Send From single address selection in the Mac Mail preferences under Composing, it doesn't provide a way to select all the possible addresses you may want to use.

Thank you again. I've solved it thanks to you. Not quite the way you suggested because the iCloud address didn't appear in any dropdown. However, in Preferences>Accounts> I then highlighted the me.com account. In the email address box there's a dropdown that just showed the me.com address, with the option to add an address. So I added the iCloud.com address and that has solved the issue. It may seem fairly simple with hindsight, but it's by now means obvious, and nowhere on line have I found this solution. And without you string me to that window I probably still wouldn't have! Cheers!
