Hi,

I have an iPod Touch with about 40 to 50 gigs worth of music on it but also subscribe to Apple Music but do not have iCloud Music Library enabled on the iPod as I don't fancy the thought of it trying to upload that much music (that and I don't really have faith that it won't mess with some of my custom albums / naming conventions however that's my fault for spending all my time doing that!)

Anyway, is there a solution to this whereby I can enable iCloud library on my iPod without it uploading all of these songs so I can take advantage of being able to download some music from the store to listen to?

I read that some options are to create another iTunes library simply for Apple Music to use with iCloud but I'm a bit lost on how I would do this on the iPod itself, from what I've read this seems to be for the computer only not the iPod?

Any tips or pointers would be greatly received or if I haven't explained properly let me know and I will try to add context if needed.

Basically, I don't want to lose all of my music that I've spent years sorting or upload it either for that matter.

Thank you.

Similar situation here....not trying to split things up, but rather just trying to keep Apple Music from touching my physically stored iTunes Library. Basically I want to keep my purchased music and ripped music away from Apple Music/iCloud Library/iTunes Match so as to avoid the whole renaming/misnaming of iTunes Matched music. I think I understand it that if I don't use iCloud Library and keep it turned off on all devices that I will be able to avoid these issues and basically just use Apple Music to stream songs/subscribe to their pre-made playlists?

Can't you just make a backup?

I have my iTunes library backed up to an external drive and then just subscribe to apple music.

It's not the backup I am worried about, its the force uploading of the 35+ gigs of music that I have on my iPod already and I don't want to delete everything just to use Apple Music.

There should be an option - Spotify allows me to download an album or 10 to listen to without bitching that everything has to go into the cloud and I don't care about accessing all my music on other devices, I purposely have an iPod for my music and would like to be able to download an album from Apple Music without first either having to delete everything currently on my iPod or add 35 gigs worth to their cloud.

Is that too much to ask for?

If you find a way I’d like to know it too.. just started an Apple Music trial. But I also don’t want this to affect my own library at all. Because of this I will not turn on the iCloud music library.
