iCloud music library downloading not streaming

Hi, I just subscribed to Apple Music, it uploaded hundreds of my own unmatched songs from iTunes . . . . . then I signed into Apple Music on my iPhone (iCloud Music Library also switched on) . . . almost immediately my iPhone started heating up and the battery draining, a few hours later all my storage was eaten up, it had downloaded over 20GB of my unmatched songs before I stopped it by switching off WiFi, switching off iCloud Music Library, rebooting and deleting all music from my iPhone . . . .

My understanding was that it would not automatically start downloading my entire iCloud Music library until the iPhone is full . . . should it not just make the unmatched songs available for STREAMING? i.e.: to show the playlists and then if you click on an unmatched song, it should stream just like any other Apple Music song?

Now that I have restored my iPhone and switched off iCloud music library I am not seeing my unmatched songs or their playlists in the Music app . . . . this seems very complicated, I just want it to show my playlists and stream any song that's been uploaded as part of my iTunes music library but it seems to only want to download them or not show them at all?

Any help appreciated.

Not sure what's going on but none of my music downloads unless I tell it to.

Well, that's a new one for me also. I have had issues (like many others) where playlists were not completely downloaded or some songs disappeared after supposedly being downloaded, but I have never heard of an iPhone just downloading everything on it's own.
What it is supposed to do is show all your music and playlists that are on all your devices and computers, but certainly not download them without you specifically tell it to. Very strange - hope you get it straightened out.

Why not contact Apple support or better yet, stop by the genius bar if you have an Apple store nearby.

Did you just see the popup only ? You may be thinking their on your phone because of what the pop up says...we all get that..

"Do you want to merge or replace? "

Even now and then I get this, and do not have any songs on iOS physically (its restored clean).. I dunno why Apple does this on a device there are no songs on, and i wish Apple would do fix this, as it can be confusing on a blank device.

If you "Merge" then yes, duplicates will happen.. "Replace" will upload any content on your phone, if any, to the cloud.replacing any songs there.

Apple usual response is just to "merge" cos while u will have duplicates, at least it won't delete anything.
