iCloud Notes between Mavericks & iOS 11

Is it possible for Notes to sync between Notes on Mavericks and Notes on iOS 11?

I believe Mavericks uses the old kludgey IMAP email (pre-iCloud) method for syncing Notes which is not iCloud compatible.
