2011 is Office for Mac. Also that control panel shouldn't be needed in Windows if Apple knows how to run a Mail server.

Sorry, assumed 2011 was a typo and you were using windows.

you can manually add it to office (windows or mac) if you know the settings, which are in a thread on here somewhere. the control panel for windows doesn't just do mail, it does bookmark syncing, contacts, photostream control, etc. the mail part is handy as it setups the account in outlook in seconds, no need to manually mess about like you probably will have to.

Dunno if this will be any use, doesn't have office, but the settings may help - http://www.ifans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=345472

Just got it working this morning. The servers were overloaded yesterday so it wasn't working and that may have been your problem too, but here are my settings

Username: your @me.com address username (email address without the @me.com on the end)
Password: Apple ID Password

Incoming server: imap.mail.me.com
NOT checked: Override default port
CHECK: Use SSL to connect
NOT checked: Always use secure password

Outcoing server: smtp.mail.me.com : 587
CHECK: Overide Default Port (will allow you to change to 587 above)
CHECK: Use SSL to connect

This is what worked for me in the end.
