Hi,

I'm trying to connect the local User Account on a friend's MacBook Pro to his iCloud. When doing so in System Preferences > Users it'll ask me for the old user account password and iCloud password.

However, it keeps telling me in red that the iCloud password is incorrect. This is absolutely impossible since I'm using the exact same password to login on iCloud.com and the iCloud preferences pane just fine.

How is it possible that the password does get accepted at iCloud.com, Apple ID webpage and the iCloud account preferences pane, yet isn't accepted when trying to link the iCloud password to the OS X user account?

I'm completely at a loss here.

Ps. He's using a hotmail account as his email address.

I'm having the exact same issue. I already had it activated and I was unable to log in using the iCloud password.

I managed to log in and disable that feature and now that I'm trying to enable it again it keeps telling me the password is incorrect.

I guess something is broken with iCloud today.

Ok! I have the exact same issue. I can't login in to my MacBook and iMac since a few hours. I'm calling with support at this moment. Something really strange is going on, first thought I was hacked. Thank god I see you guys having the same issue. That's a good start! I will update this once I have more news

Please do, I'm outside the US and can't call support.

BTW, I completely disabled iCloud on my Macbook and now I can't enable it again. Keeps telling me of an unknown error when entering my password.

I did the same on my iPhone and it logged back in without issues. Lets hope it's an issue with iCloud and not with OS 10.10.1.

I have same issue here. I already reported this issue 4 hours a go to apple support.

Quick fix if you just wanna to login turn off your internet connectivity.

If you can not do it from settings just turn off your router than login to your computer and after that turn on your router and connect :D it will work but if you wanna unlock some locks in system preferences for example with your password it will not work again.....

Yep, I'm on hold to Apple Support atm. Can't log in to my Mac at all unless WiFi is off, can't edit my account, can't use any iCloud services on OSX at all. It's now failing on my iPhone too. Fuming. Error with my account apparently. Have changed password 4 times as well.

I have the same issue. I had to disable WI-Fi so that my user account password reverted to the local one rather than iCloud. I then switched my account to permanently use the local one rather than the iCloud password and I can't log in properly. I got through to Apple support and they suggested that the issue is the Mac thinking it isn't logged in to iCloud properly when it actually is (because some of the iCloud functionality is working). However, I had to terminate the call to take a delivery. Please update how you got on and whether you have a proper resolution. I suspect OS X 10.11.1.1 will be out very shortly! The Apple support lines are very busy.

Having the exact same issue as you all here. I'm on the phone with Apple US support as well as I type this. Only way I can get into OS X is through the guest account. I was able to get in once by using the 'password reset' utility by booting into the recovery partition and using terminal there. It only got my into my account once. Once the computer went back to sleep I couldn't log in again and the password reset trick wouldn't get me back in.

Might work if you can get in once and turn off using your iCloud account as your login, wish I had found this forum post earlier and learned it was an iCloud issue.

Turn off your router just so you can log in. Then change the password and make it local. Then turn your router back on.

Hope it gets fixed asap.

My own MacBook Pro is now suffering from the exact same issue.

I swear I was about to throw both out the window. Infuriating. Every time I had to authenticate my password wasn't accepted.

I foolishly signed out of iCloud. Now it's trying to upload 63 GB of photos. The photos are ready in iCloud but it is re-uploading each file!

I also got signed out of Microsoft OneDrive. I have over 100 GB of data in that cloud. When I signed back in it was back in sync in 30 sec! There is something wrong when Microsoft gets it right and Apple doesn't.

iCloud is a total disaster. Yet, I still like my photos being in sync.

Having the same problem. Here I thought it was something with the Mac. It worked this morning and then my Mac locked and it kept telling me my password is wrong. Impossible! I've used the same iCloud password for quite some time.

Was really annoying talking with Apple's technical support until I got to a 'Senior Advisor'. Every single L1 agent treated me like an idiot who forgot their password even after I told them all the steps I had taken including using the 'resetpassword' tool from the Terminal within the recovery partition. I humored them, even reinstalled the OS, but nothing worked.

When I finally got to the L2 I just gave up. Activated the System Admin account and used the root account to change my user account over to a local password instead of using the iCloud password. Everything works fine for me now, but hopefully they post something to let us know when the issue is fixed.

I now have the issue where App Store apps and iCloud songs download at the speed of dial-up. My 200 Mb/s connection definitely isn't the one to blame.

There is a known issue with iCloud right now. Apple's engineers are working on it.
