I’ve been using the 50gb iCloud tier for a while now for phone backups, and then the free google photos tier as a photo backups.

Now I just came back from a holiday and thought I would try iCloud Photo Library so I could mirror the albums on my Mac to my iOS devices. But when I turn it on my Mac, google photo sync went bananas syncing and causing lots of duplicates of the most recent photos. So I’ve stopped and disabled iCloud Photo Library now.

Any ideas is this is the norm and if so how to stop it causing duplicates?

Might be that iCloud Photo Library isn’t for me and I just keep going with what I have got but wanted to underStand why it did this anyway.

Think I figured it. iPhone is uploading the heic files but because photo stream only seems to support jpeg, and doesn’t do video (which is what iCloud photos does). Once I synced via USB to get the videos off my phone these show up in google as a different file. Found a huge long support thread with the same issue.

Oh well, will sack this of now
