Hi all,

I just got my new iPhone 7 Plus 128GB so I want to download all the photos and videos on my iCloud Photo Library in their original sizes. Previously I used iPhone 5 16GB so I just used the Optimise Storage option.

However, even after I chose 'Download and Keep Originals', it didn't do anything - maybe it just downloaded around 85 photos but the rest was still in compressed forms.

I tried turning off and turning back on iCloud Photo Library but it didn't work, still says 'Last Updated at xx' as in it finished download everything and nothing to be downloaded.

My question is, how to download all my pics & videos using the 'Download and Keep Originals' option? Do I have to be plugged into power and connected to wifi to initiate the downloading? I haven't tried this one.

Thanks for your answers!

Yes the telephon must be connected to Wi-Fi and charging.

but apparently after further browsing, people say that the device only saves pictures & videos that the device takes, other than that, the rest will still be optimised no matter what setting are you in. But I'll try the charging+wifi tonight.

Clearly they dont know what they are talking about. I have over 12 000 pictures in my library an more than 50% is not taken with my devices. But my iPhone 7+ still downloads all pictures and movies.
So if your iPhone not downloading something is wrong but i have no idea how to solve it.
The only thing i can think about is to turn iCloud Library of and restart and turn it on.
The last resort is to resett your iPhone and start over.

even if you haven't opened the photos for a long time, are they still there always available full-res on your phone or do they go being optimised after a while?
