Ive been using icloud photo library since its beginning.

Ive always used at least one mac with complete copy of the library to be able to back it up on local external drives.

Now my library is growing so large its starting to get difficult to have the whole library on my macbook pro.

Should I stop having a complete copy? That means I dont get backup anymore

How do you guys handle your large icloud photo libraries?

You absolutely want to have 3 backups. If your internal drive is now filling up with your library, you can put it on an external drive. Depending on the drive that could slow things down a bit. That's where I keep my Photos.photoslibrary (~400 GB).

If you're willing to spend the money, you might think about getting a NAS box, and moving your photo library there. Synology and QNAP are two major vendors I recommend. They both work seamlessly with Macs (as well as PCs and Linux systems).
