My photos library was starting to get too large for my mbp so I thought I would give iCloud Photo Library a try. So I upped my tier from 200gb to 2tb and set my photos app to iCloud Photo Library.

2 days later everything was complete and looking good. So I went to my iPhone and set that to iCloud Photo Library too, it started uploaded so I put It on charge and went to bed.

Now; when I check in the morning my 48000 photos before is now 62000 and tonnes of them are duplicated, looking to be heic and jpeg of most of the same!!!! WTF!!!

I downloaded duplicate photo fixer pro, let it scan and it seems to have picked most up but it then moves these to an album, which I can’t delete from.

Any ideas how I can fix this mess and/or why it happened?

I'm about to embark on this switch to iCloud Photos. I know I'm going to have problems with all my jpegs versions of my live and portrait photos that were created by My Photo Stream.

How did this resolve for you? Any tips?

for the initial merge Duplications, you can use a mac and enable iCloud Photo Library, download everything, and use one of the hundreds of iphoto deduplication tools in the Mac App Store.

also i notice, whenever I’m also uploading to another service (like google photos or to my NAS), iCloud Photo Library will create duplicates for screenshots, and only screenshots. Have no idea why and how to fix yet.
