iCloud Photo Library, iPad and iPhone Space

I thought some folks would be interested in this. I have gone through and uploaded all of the pictures I have taken over the last five years to iCloud Photo Library using the beta website. I uploaded 10,598 pictures. These pictures have now synched back down to my iPhone 6 and my iPad mini 2, so what is stored on the IOS devices should all be optimized copies of the pictures. On my iPhone 6 the pictures are taking up 7GB and on my iPad 7.2GB.

Now one problem I have run into is the older the pictures were, the more likely they might not contain good dates or location information, so Moments get messed up and as far as I can tell there is no way to fix this. I have pictures taken 5 years ago appearing as if taken today. Maybe the Mac Photos app will have some way to move these Moments around.

Anyway I thought some folks who are considering uploading pictures to IPL might be interested in these numbers.

You could try to find an app that allows editing of meta data, to put that back in.

Thanks. I may give that a try. The only problem is finding the original photo. I have my pictures in hundreds of folders and looking for one specific photo is going to be a lot of trouble. Anyway it is not a big problem right now. If I were to go back to all my pictures it would be a lot worse because a lot of them are just scanned pictures or pictures taken before location services began. That is one reason why I probably won't go back and load those older pictures.

I really doubt this would happy. Even though Photo Library is listed as beta, it is beta available to every Apple user. I really seriously doubt they would wipe out the pictures of every Apple user that has uploaded pictures to it. Having said that, it is crazy to rely on just one cloud service, so I keep backups over everything in several places.

Don't doubt Apple's desire to wipe data from time to time. If you trust your photos to a beta solution, you'll get burned at some point.

I thought I would share what I have been doing and what I found to see what you think.

I too uploaded some photos via iCloud Beta and I too found that it stuck all of my photos at the end when viewed in moments as if I had taken them today. In the past I used an application called Rollit when I decided I wanted to have photos on my phone again. Due to space I used to copy all of my photos to my PC and then delete them off my phone. I never looked at the photos again and never had them available to share so putting them back on the phone was my way to fix that.

I once again dug out Rollit. I have no affiliation with this app and you may find one similar you like more but this is what I used successfully. Once I copied the photos back to my phone they uploaded to iCloud Photo Library via the phone and they sort in the correct order based on date. They do not have tags at the top for location because these photos I'm talking about here came from my DSLR. I do have a GPS unit for it but don't always have it connected.

So, if you want the photos in the correct order, you might want to look at an app that will let you drop the photos back onto the phone then let the phone upload to the cloud until they do something more with the website.
