The biggest problem with the current beta is the lack of integration with iphoto. If you turn iCloud Photo Library on my ios 8 device it will ONLY upload and sync photos taken via an iOS device. It will NOT see or sync the photo stream on OS x and those pictures will drop of the iOS device.
I know this will change with the new photos app next year but it makes it kind of unusable now. I take 90% of my pictures with a DSLR and import to iphoto. I take very few via ios.

Well, Apple already stopped supporting iPhoto on ios, and it seems like iPhoto on the mac will soon become a distant memory as well.

I agree with you here. This is one of those features which makes sense if Apple had been able to roll out this feature to all devices simultaneously. If iPhoto is a huge deal to you, I guess the answer is clear - don't turn on icloud photo library anytime soon.

Well Im also lacking it but Im pretty sure the new photos.app for os x will come out as beta soon.

Anyway as far as the beta concerns me it it solves one of my biggest issues since the introduction of ipad, to the the same photo library between the devices. I like to shoot videos with my iphone and now i can imovie them on my ipad without any hazzle.

Im pretty sure the photos.app will have the originals too so that you can keep device optimized files on the iOS devices and have your mac backed up with your photos in case iCloud breaks.
