Hi everyone,

can someone explain the reason why I can’t share an album but I have to create a shared album and then add the photos from the album I want to share?
And can someone tell me the reason why when I do so, the phone has to download all the photos before I can share them?
I just tried to share an album with 400 pictures and it took me 1 hour and 15 minutes. If the phone goes on standby the “preparing” or “downloading” process stops and I had to restart it from zero.

the photos are already on the cloud what’s the point to download them locally to add them to another cloud album?

The more I dig into Apple ecosystem the more I wonder if the developers are using android as daily phones because there are absurd bugs and absurd mechanics in the most basic functions...

Let’s talk about it..
Thanks!

I just open album, tap Share Photos and it sends all the photo in the album. I don’t have to create another album.

I guess it is because it will send actual photos, not links to photo.

If the recipients are Apple users you can create shared album and they will see all the photo once they accept your invitation. I don’t think you have to download them that way. It’s just like sharing a note or reminder.

No mate you missed the point. I don’t want to send all the photos, I want to share an album with my partner. a holiday album.

so I have this 400 pictures in my phone, in an album called USA 2019

I want to share it. Can’t.
Need to create a shared album.
I created then a shared album called USA 2019.
When I go to add the pictures from my iCloud album to the shared (iCloud) album, the phone has to download them all on my phone to do that.
and the process took over one hour, with me needing to look at the phone because if the screen goes off the process stops.

Try please and let me know..

Ah I see, the photo have to be downloaded before adding to the shared album. That’s dumb. 😀

Fully agreed - this is absurd. In expectation of Apple's ProRaw and especially with Apple One (storage bundled with other services), I've been trying to migrate from Google Photos to iCloud Photos. It has been a nightmare, and this is another level to the nightmare.

I want to have a shared family album with my spouse, but adding years of prior photos is impossible if I have to 1) upload all photos to icloud, 2) download all photos, then 3) upload them again to a shared album. What a joke.

It's like Apple assumes all users are born and day 1 begin to use iCloud...as if we don't have many thousands of photos already.
