I'm noticing some odd behavior and I'm hoping someone can help me understand what is causing it.

My iPhone is set to use iCloud Photos. I have "Download and Keep Originals" checked since I want the originals on my phone.

The Photos application on my MacBook does not use iCloud Photos. Periodically I connect via cable and import my photos to it.

Here is the weird thing. If I download a photo from iCloud via a browser, the photo size is 2048 x 1536. Photos in the Photos MacBook app are 4032 x 3024.

So my concern is that iCloud is not storing the full size pictures. This would diminish its value as a backup means. How do I ensure that full size photos are stored in iCloud?

Don't click the download button. Hover over it at the bottom, click the tiny little arrow that appears in the bottom right hand corner, and download "Unmodified Original". Just downloading pictures straight gets you the "most compatible" jpeg version with the same technical limitations as Apple's earlier "My Photostream" or shared photostreams, and a 2048px maximum height or width.

When I hover over the only thing to appear is a heart on the bottom left corner. I've tried with different color images to ensure that I'd see the download arrow and it does not appear.
[doublepost=1547348673][/doublepost]Hey I figured it out. It seems to work differently for me than you described. I'm on MacOS using Safari.

Using the keywords "unmodified original" that you gave me, I found this article and it worked for me. Thanks!

I'd be more inclined to say it worked differently than you understood ;) I described exactly how it works. The article says to click and hold the download button, but hovering over the download button (as I wrote, but I'm presuming you from the mention of the heart you accidentally inferred that I meant to hover on the image for some reason) presents a little arrow you can click on that does the same thing.

Glad you got it sorted.

You are right. I was thinking I read you saying to hover over the image.

Anyway, when I hover over the download cloud image it does give me that arrow. My eyesight even with glasses is not that good. Thanks for your help.
