I reformatted my computer and set it up as a new machine, and I am having trouble getting my photos to work right. I copied over my old photo library to the newly set up machine, but can't find a way to point it to iCloud. When I turn on iCloud, it tries to upload everything to iCloud, not recognizing that it is already there. This is a problem because my library is HUGE and it took days/ weeks to do it last time.

I also tried starting fresh and downloading all my photos from iCloud (my download speed is way better than my upload speed so this was much more doable). The problem is that once it finishes downloading them, all of a sudden it says it needs to download them all again, and it hasn't moved in days. Do you guys have any suggestions of how to get my photos to play nice with iCloud again?

Hi. This issue is discussed here: https://tidbits.com/article/15745 It seems that it does not re-upload everything in the end, although it might seem to be doing that.

If I were you, I would create an empty brand-new library and make sure to re-download everything from scratch. It shouldn't re-download files unless you are modifying them on one of your other devices as the download is still going on on your mac.

Thank you. I am trying to redownload everything from scratch (brand new library), and I am going to just let it run for a few days and see what happens. Thanks again!
