So I have a mobileme account that I've had for god knows how long now and use it as my main personal email address and all the other goodies that come with it. Problem is, (as many other people have this problem too) those individuals who have a different account that they have made all their purchases on are screwed.

I have no idea which account I should be using as my main iCloud account. I really would like to use my mobileme account but then I lose the ability to have all my purchases (music, apps, etc) in the cloud.

Did Apple not realize that a lot of people have more than 1 account? How hard would it have been to implement a merging feature.

You can use different emails for iCloud and Apple ID. I have used my gmail as my AppleId for years. I also had a mobile me account. I moved the mobile me account to iCloud, but still use gmail as my Apple ID. You just have to go into settings then store and change the apple ID to what you have been using to purchase in iTunes.

You can use both, one Apple ID (me.com) for iCloud (calendars, contacts, docs, find my iPhone/Mac, Back to My Mac, Photostream) and one Apple ID (other email) for iTunes purchases. I'm doing this right now and it works fine. This morning I bought an app on my MacBook, walked upstairs, picked up my phone and the app was already there.

In Settings put your me.com address into the iCloud setting. Then go to the Store setting and put whatever other Apple ID you want to use in and turn on Automatic Downloads for whatever you want. Then use that Apple ID on purchases from your phone or computer.

Thanks! Hopefully that does the trick. I like to think of myself as somewhat fairly knowledgable when it comes to Apple things but this confused me. I can only imagine how difficult it's going to be for people who aren't as technologically savvy and are in this situation too.

One of the help screens (I believe it was a link called: What is an Apple ID?) when your setting up your device initially instructs you that if you have two accounts to use your iCloud account initially for the setup. Once complete you go back into Settings > Store .. At the bottom Click your Apple ID and sign out. You can then click and sign back in using the Apple ID you use for purchases.
