Got the new IOS5 & thought Icloud photostream would be useful.

How wrong I was, using photostream it now takes at least 4 times as long and at least 10 times as many key presses/screen taps to do what I could (and still) do with file explorer.

So Icloud is turned off on the iphone & uninstalled from the PC.

Cloud based data storage/syncing is a useful tool but until I have full control of what is stored, where & for how long rather than the like of Apple controlling it then I'll keep it turned off.

I'm still waiting for Apple to get wifi & Bluetooth fully sorted. I'll not be getting an Ipad (or the like) until it can do what I want, which at this rate will be NEVER.

Huh? You take a picture and that picture shows up in Photo Stream on all your synced devices over the next minute or two. Nothing to press, nothing to click, you just take a picture and it is shared. How is that hard? In iPhoto, you open it and any Photo Stream pictures are automatically imported into date based events, nothing to do unless you want to further organize them.

Guess I am missing what issue you are having with Photo Stream, can you explain more?

I'm guessing things aren't quite so seamless for windows users.

In mac land iCloud works beautifully. Add the ability to share a contact group with other iCloud users the same way you can a calendar and iCloud would be damn near perfect in it's functionality.

As you have noted, the experience for those using Windows is less than optimal compared to those on OSX. I'd look for that to only continue as both iOS and OSX continue to work together deeper and deeper.

Enjoy http://www.dropbox.com and an Android tablet.

Oh, and it's iOS, iCloud and iPad.

I'll Explain

I take 8-10 photos per day, I only need to transfer them to the PC then they are no longer needed on the Iphone. Once on the PC I use them for 1 hr max then delete. I transfer them to where I want them using file explorer (drag & drop), delete them from the iphone (with file explorer), use them on the PC then again delete with file explorer. This way I take the photos & then only need to connect iphone to PC to transfer them. Simple.

With Icloud, any photos I take are uploaded to icloud whether I want them to be or not, put on to my PC along with the 8-10 I need. The one I need are copied to Camera Roll and to delete them I have to go into photos, select them & delete them. They remain in photostream & on icloud) for 30 days. I can delete them from the phone by turning off icloud & selecting Delete Photos but unless I then go to icloud.com & reset my photostream they come back on as soon as I enable icloud again. This means by the end of 30 days there will be almost 300 unwanted photos on the iphone and this total will remain fairly constant as new one are added & the oldest deleted. Any photos I do take & want would be mixed in with all these.

Far better in my opinion would be the ability to select which are transfered to PC via the cloud & then automatically deleted from both photostream & icloud once transfered. If I could then have the option to save all/some to Camera Roll as I may take 12 but only need 10 of them (ie 2 duff ones retaken). I certainly don't want every photo taken to be transfered to PC but it's all or none.

As for Bluetooth, I still sometimes want to recieve files/photos from other bluetooth users (although not as often these days) but Apple don't want us to have this feature.

As for WiFi, on the iphone you can't set the order your prefered networks are joined. So EVERY time I step out of range on my high speed broadband the iphone will connect to BTFON, BTopenzone, 3G etc. As my hum also offers low speed BTfon & BT openzone connections when I get back in to range it connects to the slow connection & I have to change it in settings. Not hard you may say & you're right, it's not, it's just a pain having to do it EVERY time I come back to the house.

What did Apple say when I emailed them asking if they could do something about this? Nothing, they didn't even bother to reply. Exactly the same response when I contacted them about Bluetooth not working with my headset after IOS upgrade (worked perfect on IOS3, ended up having to buy a new headset because or IOS4). When I phoned them asking if I could revert to IOS3, the short answer was 'NO' (the long answer was 'NO, you can't, speak to your network provider').

Add that to the fact that there are loads of web pages that offer content that requires Adobe Flash that doesn't work on iphones, the maps app. doesn't override the screen 'shut down' when navigating so again you are in & out of settings to make it usable, you can bet your bottom dollar that when you really need the iphone there's no network coverage (not Apples' fault but it don't do much without it).

Don't get me wrong, the iphone is a good phone, it's got many good features, some good apps & is easy to use but it's not the 'be all & end all' it's made out to be.

If Apple were prepared to listen & sort out its shortcommings it could be great.

Now that looks like it may be very useful. If I can select multiple photos on the iphone & put in to drop box then after using them on the PC delete them (with PC) and have drop box delete them off phone that would be perfect.

Will look in to that one, pity Apple didn't make theirs as simple.
