Hi Guys,

Hope someone can help... I"ve got my new 4S and loving it :) I decided to set it up without iTunes because I didn't want all the junk on my 3G being copied onto the new iPhone.

Now, my question is... if I setup iCloud on my new 4S, is there are way to get the contact info on my Mac/iPhone 3G onto the cloud, so I can then download it onto the 4S?

...Or, will I need to use iTunes the old fashioned way via a backup?

Thanks!

If you have OSX Lion, you can download the iCloud update and then sync your contacts straight to iCloud from the computer.

I currently use gmail calendar/contacts sync and ALL data stays on google's servers. Is there a way to import contacts and/or calendar data from google to iCloud via the web interface?

I"m having the same issue. I currently have all my contacts syncing through Google and have an Exchange account created to handle off of it.

I've tried adding contacts to my phone but they don't sync to iCloud, however Google is getting them to my Mac. I log in and they don't show up in the iCloud web app and when I add them to iCloud through the web app they don't sync down to my iPhone.

Do you guys think I should remove the Exchange account I'm using with my Google account?

There's a thread here saying that you can't sync contacts to both iCloud and google. When you switch one on/off it affects the other. Me thinks its because there is only one address book database in IOS unlike the calendar where it has separate databases.

While clicking around trying to sort out my contacts I got a popup message in the iCloud pref pane saying you cannot have Google Sync in the Address Book and iCloud contacts sync on at the same time. I turned off Google Sync and since then have had no problems with iCloud contacts.

Looks like iCloud and Google cannot sync contacts at the same time.

Ok, so I sync'd my Contacts from my old 3G to Lion (which worked fine), and then set up iCloud to sync contacts only from the iCloud settings...

...but when I log into iCloud.com, it doesn't show any of my contacts. So, with no contacts in iCloud, I can't "download" them onto my new 4S :(

I know the whole point of iCloud is for data to automically sent up to iCloud, but this is one occassion where I would love a manual "Sync to iCloud" button so I could send my contact info up!

Is Lion setup to sync to your iCloud acct? The contacts you sync'd to Lion have to be loaded/sync'd to iCloud

So here's a problem I now have. If I turn off my contact sync with Google, then I lose all of those contacts from my iPhone. Is there anyway to get them to iCloud?

I'm in the same boat. I don't see a way to import an exported google address book into icloud (at least not on icloud.com).

Yes, but that wasn't the problem... I've managed to do it now, oddly by signing out:

1. Signed out of iCloud.com
2. Signed out of iCloud in System Pref in Lion
3. Re-signed back into iCloud in Lion - It then asked me to set the account up (which I had already done previously) so I left everything at default and went through the setup.
4. Lo and behold, Contact Info appeared on iCloud.com...
5. Signed into iCloud on my 4S... a few seconds later, Contact Info was all there!
6. Did the Happy Dance!

:D

Sure... go to Google and export contacts to a VCF file. Then import those to Address Book in Lion and they will sync to iCloud.
