According to iCloud Storage on my MacBook, the documents stored in the top level of my iCloud Drive folder are using more than 30GB (when I checked my iPad the info was the same). BUT, when I look at iCloud Drive in Finder, I'm seeing only 6GB (which makes more sense). Has anyone else experienced such a discrepancy? I would rather not have to increase the size of my storage plan if this is a glitch of some sort. Thanks.

I suspect it's due to the finder not showing some hidden files. iCloud has files you can't access in finder. I would go by what it's saying on your iPad or MacBook under your Apple ID. It will tell you when you're running low.

Thanks but that would be more than 20GB of hidden files which doesn’t seem right.
Backups from iPhone or iPad? I can't see them in my iCloud folder on my Mac. I also can't see the photos folder or the folder that has iMessage files.

They are separate categories when you look at the iCloud storage usage. My Documents and Desktop is the category with 30GB.

Okay just looking on my Mac and the size of the orange "Documents" bar when I hover over it shows about the same as finder shows for documents. On my iPhone it shows one GB less. I know Apple has been having trouble with iCloud today so maybe this is part of the issue. You could turn off that part of iCloud and back on. Just make sure everything is saved locally and backed up to an external. Sorry I'm not more helpful :(

Thanks. I think the problem for me goes back a while - it’s just that I realized today that the folders in the Finder are nowhere close to 30GB.

I decided to use this situation as an opportunity to do some digital cleanup/reorganization and so (after backing up) I stopped using iCloud Drive -- at least for the time being -- and disabled it on all my devices. Yet in my iCloud storage I am still seeing 33GB attributable to iCloud Drive, which has been that way for at least a few weeks. According to Finder, My Documents and Desktop folders are only around 6GB - when I was using iCloud Drive, I couldn't figure out why there was such a big discrepancy. But there's also been no change since I disabled iCloud Drive.

Hopefully it gets resolved soon. With iCloud disabled make sure you pay more attention to backups.

Mine matches, in finder, not all of the documents are downloaded in less you access them.
So I'm using 23.8 GB on the cloud and only have 45 mb on my device, because I haven't accessed them to download them.

Spent a lot of time on the phone with an Apple specialist. The problem WAS at their end - now I am showing only 8GB used in iCloud, not over 40GB.
