iCloud, Reminders, and iCal

I've been playing with iCloud on Lion and iOS5 betas, but something's still confusing me. I know that reminders syncs up with iCloud (or it's at least backed up over iCloud), but do reminders actually get put in into Calendar/iCal at all? Do Reminders get synced with anything in Lion, or is it just a standalone app on iOS?

If it's just standalone, a lot of the usefulness goes out the door, because I know that I often find myself wanting to check my to-do list on the computer, as well as on my phone.

I was wondering the same exact thing. I loaded iOS 5, but only have iOS access so I am not using Lion. I agree that if there is not a Mac component to Reminders, then Apple has missed the boat. Looking forward to knowing the answer as well. Reminders do sync through iCloud. I tested on my iPhone 4 and iPad.

I guess at least syncing across iDevices is a benefit, but most people are at MOST using 2 iDevices. I think Mac - iOS synergy is much more important. I guess we'll have to see, and I'll have to play around with it a bit more.

There is Outlook sync but it is not working.

It's a good feature, but this means close to nothing for Mac users, and Apple clearly wouldn't alienate Mac users.

So you're saying that the "to-dos" section in iCal has been renamed to Reminders? Just wondering because all the Lion iCal screenshots that I've seen still have the To-Dos label. Also, can you do as much with the iCal reminders as you can with iOS reminders (ie set locations and the like?)

I have IOS 5 beta and OSX Lion Gold Master and can't see how to get the iCloud Sync working for Reminders. I'm guessing I need access to iCloud beta?

I was going to say, aside from the name change I haven't had an issue!

(not that I use it for task management- look into Omni Group products if you want to move your workflow to digital)

Ok, so now that I've upgraded to Lion I can see that it does indeed have the Reminders section in iCal instead of To-Dos. Which is great. My only remaining question is in regards to how this all shows up on the iOS side. I'm a student so I have multiple calendars - one for each class, as well as for home and other stuff like that. I make to-dos for each calendar by dragging an event in that calendar to the Reminders section and then adding the assignment. For example, all my events for Class 1 are labeled "Class 1" and if I have an assignment due on Aug 6th I'll drag the Aug 6th event for that calendar to the sidebar, so the due date is already set, and then add the specific assignment due in the title. That way, I can sort by due date as well as by class. For people who use multiple calendars for their todos/reminders, when it syncs over to the Reminders app, do these reminders all stay lumped together into one long list, or do they get broken up into different lists based on what calendar they use? If they did get divided into different calendar-based lists that would be awesome..

Really? Because I don't see Reminders in my iCal...

I had to manually export all my Gmail calendars and re-add them to iCloud via iCal, as well. It was kind of a pain.

I expected all that stuff to transfer automatically when I enable iCloud. Did I miss something?

Did you update to OS X 10.7.2 to enable iCloud support on the Mac? It was released yesterday along with iOS 5. I honestly haven't tested it, but that is the conclusion I came to when trying to answer the same question.

Just to confirm, once I updated to 10.7.2, iCloud showed up in System Preferences. I can now see my Reminders from my iOS devices!

I guess the part I'm not getting about Reminders has more to do with why native iCal appts (appointments need reminders) arent synched and treated as reminders within the Reminders app - if you should so choose. But in effect I think it seems to be more like a seperate list of reminders that live as part of iCal and iOS in a list format, as opposed to calendar appointments.

Yes, I get iCal reminders that pop up on screen on my iPad or iMac if I so choose to set a reminder/alert. But for me the value of having a quick view of my appointments via a reminders app, loses all value when its a seperate list in iCal. Its easier to enter a "to-do" in the Reminders app on an ipad then it is to insert a calendar appt in iCal on the iPad, but in essence, having them live in two disparite streams doesnt seem useful to me. Am I confusing Tasks with Appointments? Maybe. But if I wanted a reminder to call someone at 2pm on Friday, I'd like it to be in my Calendar as a 2pm appt with a reminder and have the ability to see it in List view in the reminder applet. Did I lose everyone on this? Lol. Im just not getting my head around creating and maintaining 2 different lists or ways of reminding myself.

I updated all and while I get my reminders synched to to iPhone and iPad, it's not going to my reminder list in ical. If I put in a reminder in ical on my mac it appears in my mobile devices - but not the other way round. Any ideas?

Hello, i'm writing because i just noticed what if i add anything to the reminder in my iphone, the reminders in ical on my mac won't show up. There is no reminders only push. They gets updated only if i update something in the ical.

Is that normal?

I am having a hard time believing that creating a 'reminder' won't automatically generate a calendar event. It's bizarre... all they would have to do is allow users to add 'YOUR REMINDER LIST NAME' as a calendar, and problem solved. I'm amazed Apple overlooked that.

I have never posted anything like this but this thread is nothing but bunch of guys whining, when instead they should use some of their 'adaptive' intelligence to try something new! Reminders works differently than tasks list on Outlook calendar. Mine syncs with both iCal on the home Mac and Outlook on the work PC. I know which I prefer
