iCloud rookie

So I’ve decided to finally use iCloud for my photos off my iMac and phone. How come the imac loads then up but the iPhone when switching over wants to delete them?

When I click on photos and enable iCloud from my phone it says all my pictures will be removed and syncing from iTunes is not supported
