iCloud Specifically For HD iMovie Home Videos

I don't care about my photos (Amazon Cloud Drive is unlimited and free for Prime members) and I don't care about my documents (Dropbox is what we use for work).

All I care about are my HD home videos all shot on my iPhone's, all put through iMovie, all saved as 720p MOV files. I need a safe and convenient place to have these in their native resolution so I know they are archived properly and can be streamed conveniently.

Question: Is iCloud a good solution to back these movies up in their original resolution and does it allow me to stream the movies to my iPhone/iPad/Apple TV without the large files actually being stored on my iPhone/iPad?

I'd sign up for the 200GB for $3.99 a month today if that's the case.

No. You could store the movie files on iCloud Drive, but streaming is not possible. To my knowledge there is currently no cloud service at all that would allow to stream your own movie files (except of course services like Youtube, but I guess that's not what you are after).

That's not true, on Amazon Cloud Drive I can upload home videos under 20 minutes long and stream them on my iOS devices. It's just that I have to pay for that (the photos are unlimited and free) and I'd prefer an Apple solution.

i archive all my home movies on google drive. it has a built in web player and the iOS app.

I wasn't aware of the Amazon service. It's actually fairly elaborate, since it allows you to upload videos in many formats and it will automatically transcode them for streaming to Android and iOS devices. It's pretty resource intensive, so I'm not surprised that they charge for that:

Apple does have a solution for this its called iMovie Theatre. It's in the app on both the Mac and iOS. It also works on the Apple TV. As of now I don't think it works on the web though.

As mentioned, iMovie Theater works this way. Works in iMovie for iOS, iMovie on OS X, and the AppleTV. As mentioned, no web interface, though.

I give up (and stand corrected). It should be noted though that clips uploaded to iMovie Theater in iCloud are limited to 15 minutes according to Apple.

So, I uploaded a single video from my iPhone to Amazon Cloud Drive and it took 5 hours to get uploaded and is not accessible from an iOS device here four days later. It's great for Photos, truly, but awful for Videos.

So....back to Apple, looking at iMovie Theater as a potential solution, does it play back the videos in HD on Apple TV or does it dumb it down to a lower resolution? And once into iMovie, can I delete the videos from my iPhone's drive to open up space and still stream the videos from iMovie at will, know that they are safe in the cloud, etc.?
