I used the transfer process to set up my 13 Pro on iOs 15 release day. The process created a temp file that is 16GB in size. That file is apparently part of my iCloud back up. So now I am getting messages that my iCloud backup storage is almost full (I pay for the 50GB plan). Well 16GB of that is this temp file. I don't need more storage if that temp file could be deleted. It says in the backup section of iCloud that this back up will automatically be deleted once all your data has been restored to your new device.

The new phone was restored on release day but the 16GB temp file still persists almost 3 weeks later. I am not going to upgrade to the next tier, as cheap as it is, because I don't need it if i had that 16GB back.

I do not see any way to delete it manually. Does anyone know how to possible do that?

I don't know if this will resolve for a temp backup, but what happens if you go into iCloud > Manage Storage > Backups? Does it show there? Can you delete your most recent phone backup?

Well this issue is still present. 16GB still showing as a temp from the transfer to new phone but almost exhausting my backup storage. Any options but a reset and restore from backup? Will that even work as this is iCloud storage and not physical phone storage? Thanks for any thoughts.

The solution is to go into the iCloud settings app on your PC or Mac (I have a PC and opened it thru the systray app icon). Click on Storage and then you will see backups at the top of the list. Click on backups and the temp backup will be there. You can delete it from that list. Click done and you will get back all that temp storage.

Hope this makes sense.
