5gb is very stingy, will they up this soon?!

Even 20gb is still measly and they should give this for free, the prices are good to be fair for the upper bands but the free offering if just way too low especially for people with multiple devices.

Why aren't more eople shouting about this?

Freeloaders - always something for nothing.

Apple's always stingy about prices and storage; going back to .Mac, when it was $99/year. So 5GB for free, take it. I mean, for God's sake, I get 200GB of storage for only $3.99/month. I don't have a problem with that.
 
Well considering 20gb is nothing they should include this

My physical hard drives cost £23 per tb and they can't spare 20gb when they're devices are the most expensive....

I'm fine with the prices for 200gb and beyond but come on 5gb is not enough for anyone.

I think that's the idea. If you need more than a very basic amount, pay for it. Personally, I would be happier if they went back to an annual fee.

I think the OP has a point especially when you take into consideration how iCloud is incorporating photos, iWork and so on.

Who has < 5gb of photos?

And if I want 200 gb for £2.99 that's fine, but if my wife also wants 200gb she has to pay a further £2.99? So we're running at £6 for 400gb?

A terabyte of storage with Dropbox which I can share and collaborate files through costs about that.

I can't collaborate or centralise my library with iCloud.

Apple could easily clean this up:
Give 5gb PER DEVICE. It would go some way to helping users span their data.
Sort out family sharing. I want to share at the folder level, in iCloud and in applications. ie she doesn't have to fill up her iPhone with photos in iCloud from a large library on a laptop, and all of my photos of the kids can be seen from one library, hosted in my 200gb or whatever. And shared with my goddamed wife ffs! And, she can open a numbers document, from her iCloud account, edit it, and then save it in the same location so I can see the updates. You know? Collaboration.

The OP is right - more people should be shouting about this. Apple can't call a feature "family sharing" and then not let you share with your family!

Small hard drive

I just also bought a Macbook Pro with 128 GB storage. What's the point in investing in these cloud storage solutions of they also use your disk space? With 128 GB I don't have enough space to satisfy Dropbox or most of iCloud's paid storage plans. Any suggestions here?

Suggestion? Drop iCloud as your solution and go with a true cloud storage provider (OneDrive, Dropbox, etc).

iCloud and its model are a total sham.... you are not paying to store files, only to sync them between devices.

Okay, but even Dropbox requires you have the same amount of storage on your PC that you do you Dropbox account when you use the client.

Only if you elect to sync everything. You can use selective sync to exclude Dropbox folders you don't want on your computer.

Thing is - none of these services are as integrated with iOS as icloud is. For example, dropbox won't automatically upload my photos when my iPhone is connected to wifi the way iCloud photo library does.

I admit iCloud is slow, buggy and less responsive compared to other cloud alternatives, and the irritating thing is that I still choose it for the convenience it offers over the rest. :(

I think you are forgetting that they have somewhere around 400 million users.

They've already provided 2 billion GB for free.

And what is up with this "I want everything for free! Wah!" mentallity?

Yes, you do have to launch the Dropbox app for it to start uploading. Alternatively, Dropbox can automatically import photos and videos whenever you connect your iPhone to your Mac.

You would prefer to use a service that is buggy and less responsive because you do not have to click a button to open an app?? wow....

i think its more like

i would love to go with you apple, but why would i pay you for what i can get free elsewhere.....





ive got 20 gigs or so free with dropbox
ive got and dont use much of about 100 gigs free from copy.com
and at some stage i picked up 100 gigs free from box.com


they all work quite well. icloud i would like better. i would want it to be better, but why would i pay? and if i dont pay, why would i use it free when its too small?

and it wouldnt cause any frustration at all if it wasnt apple (we'd just ignore it) but it is easier and nicer to keep stuff within the apple sphere so we are just frustrated that its not better.

a bit like family sharing....

Yes. For me, the whole point of cloud syncing / backup is that it should result in fewer actions I need to manage on my part, not more.
 
If I had to make a prediction I'd say that a week from today when they release 10.10.3 with Photos and iOS 8.2 they will at least double the base amount of iCloud storage. I'm sure Apple is well aware that 5 gb is very skimpy when they are trying to get people to have all of their Photos, Documents, Email, Music and backups on iCloud.

That's why the original iDisk which mounted as if it were a network drive was better. Only problem was the WebDav connectivity. For faster uploads, I used Transmit back then.

With the encouragement to sync/store your photos in the cloud, Apple has got either come down in price or throw in a lot more free storage (maybe even 5 GB PER device, especially since the backup for each device is usually 1-3 GB. Since photo (and most other apple apps) make it basically an all or nothing for cloud storage, the amount of "free" storage and the price for upgrades is pricey.
 
Apple is charging 17K for a watch, they probably feel that their iCloud pricing is decent.

My issue is can we just get a unified iCloud payment? I pay 25 bucks a year for iTunes Match, then 0.99 a month for iCloud storage. I'm using about 60% of my capacity of Match, why can't that be a part of the iCloud service space? Just make it all one thing for one price already!!! And let me stream my music through icloud.com while you're at it!
