Anyone who knows the answer and can verify what an Apple phone rep told me...

  1. I want to subscribe to iCloud+ in order to increase the amount of server space I have for synced data (Messages In The Cloud, books etc).
  2. I have 2 AppleIDs, one for iTunes / Appstore purchases (which has an associated credit card), the other for iCloud login / iCloud Drive / sync etc (which does not have an associated credit card).
If I'm going to subscribe to iCloud+, I would purchase it using my iCloud AppleID, not my Appstore AppleID, because the server space is applied to the AppleID the purchase is made under.

Is that correct, or can you subscribe to it with one account, but then nominate another account to receive the benefit?

Thanks.

Correct. If you want iCloud+ on your primary AppleID, you would need to add a credit card payment method and subscribe to iCloud+ from within Settings. I never found a way to pay for iCloud+ with my secondary “iTunes” account balance, so I just did it Apple’s way.

Much appreciated - I have to imagine there's some quirk to prevent people using Family Sharing with themselves to achieve it.

Cheers.
