Does anyone know how iCloud contacts and calendar will sync with Microsoft Outlook? I hope there is an add-on or something that will allow Outlook to directly sync to iCloud and you do not have to rely on syncing a device with iTunes installed on the same pc as Outlook.

Never mind, I see you will have to download the iCloud Control Panel for Windows (which is still beta at the moment).

Well I installed the iCloud Control Panel but now I have a question. Basically, when you tell the Control Panel to sync contacts and calendar, it just adds two additional calenders for iCloud Home and iCloud Work and an additional address book for iClound Contacts. It seems you manually have to copy over the data from the default Outlook Calender and Address Book.

I do not see a way to make these iCloud calendars and address book the defaults for Outlook. So any new entries I make are automatically added to the Outlook ones instead of the iCloud ones unless I have the correct folder highlighted when I create the new entry. This seems like a major limitation. Am I missing something?

Pretty sure I have the same issue... it does it on iCal too. I was able to pull my Calendar from outlook into iCloud section... but it didnt update on my mac.

I spent about 3 hours last night trying to sort this, I used MobileMe syncing contacts only not calendar, had no prOblems the way MobileMe synced my contacts. Since migrating to iCloud my outlook contacts are totally screwed, transferred all my contact sub folders in iCloud main contact group and even when I tidied that uP when going to contacts always defaulted to the old empty contacts folder.

Hopefully I can use google to sync my contacts like I synced outlook calendar.

So what i read over the forums , iCloud creates a new Calendar and Contact Group for it's self and moves your contacts there?

So i cannot use the default Outlook location of both Calendar and Contacts to Sync?

I don't get why apple have done this, why couldn't they have just used the standard default contact location like they did with MobileMe?

I can see me ending up syncing contacts via iTunes :-(

Outlook now unable to sync with ical after iCloud setup

Hi,

Not sure if this is a related problem but until yesterday I was able to see iCal events and appointments in Outlook. I spent a few hours configuring iCal so that my wife and I could share calendars, this works fine but then I started Outlook and all appointments are now gone from Outlook.

I use GeekTool and icalBuddy to display events to my desktop and icalBuddy is still able to see events posted in either iCal or Outlook. I also have /private/var/system.log displayed on my desktop and I noticed that as soon as I started Outlook on both mine and my wife's account, the following was written to the log several times.

Code:
Oct 13 09:24:47 MacBook-Pro Microsoft AU Daemon[74419]: CFURLCreateWithBytes was passed these invalid URLBytes: '/mac/autoupdate/0409MSau02.cat' (a file system path instead of an URL string). The URL created will not work with most file URL functions. CFURLCreateFromFileSystemRepresentation should be used instead.

I made an entry in iCal and I could see that in icalBuddy but not Outlook.
I made an entry in Outlook and I could see that in both icalBuddy and iCal.

I am very new to macs but the fact that icalBuddy can still see the data from both applications, seems to indicate that it's not a problem with the calDav database, it's the way that Outlook syncs with iCal that has not been updated inline with a possible change that Apple may have made. In any event its very annoying as we tend to use both applications on our Mac.

Time to go searching the apple support forums to see if this is indeed the case.

Same here.

I stopped using MobileMe Calendar back in the day when the updated the way calendar worked and started using google to sync my calendar.

Now with the contacts going the same way i migth as well start using google for the contacts as well.

Shame tbh , hole point is to keep all your information updated on all your devices and not make it a hole issue with creating new groups and such

:confused::confused::confused:

Trouble is google don't do a contacts sync :(

Hi, CodeTwo has just released a new Outlook addin. It keeps iCloud and Outlook folders in sync (in-real time). The Control Panel has to be installed as well, but works great anyway. Here's the link:

http://www.codetwo.com/sync-for-icloud/

Though someone would be interested.

This Add-In is greate and worked perfectly for me, except for one thing.

Now I get two popup alerts on screen.
One from OUTLOOK PST and One from Outlook iCloud.

Does anyone know if there is a way to disable one of them, better saying, the iCloud one (on outlook only).

I am using just the PST to create contacts and calendars and they sync with iCloud using the CODETWO, but even unmarking the iCloud calendar, still popups on screen.

Any solution for that?

Igor
