So I'm sure this story is not a new one. Kids got new iPads and one got a new iPhone and when I go to transfer their info from one to the other and sign into iCloud I get the request for the current iPads 6 digit passcode, THEN it asks for the previous iPads 6 digit code, and THEN the damn things ask for the previous iPads "OLD" passcode..... what is this verification step and why does every single 6 digit passcode we could have ever used not work and now I have kids pestering me all day to set up their stuff.

I called Apple support on Christmas 7 times, was disconnected by them "accidentally" 6 times and the 7th got the company line the iCloud verification servers are demonstrating a glitch that is intermittent and they are working on it.

Is what I'm experiencing this glitch? It is still happening today and the 55 times I tried to verify the dang iPads yesterday throughout the whole day.

What is this request for the other iPads "OLD" passcode when you have already verified the iCloud account with it's password and the current 6 digit code that unlocks the iPad?

Probably a hiccup on Apple's servers. Give it a few to several hours and see if it is still happening. I had both Apple and my personal bank servers acting up yesterday. This morning neither are an issue. Everything is back to normal so far.

According to Macrumors there were some issues with some Apple services. Keep checking in every now and then to see when it gets resolved. Best success!

Apple is having some issues with the servers that run iCloud. Some people are having issues while others are not experiencing issues whatsoever. It seems to depend on your region. Good luck! :)

Asking for the old passcode is standard operating procedure as it is another layer of security. If you were to set up your phone or iPad again, (and you had another Apple device with the same iCloud account, it would ask for the previous passcode for the phone or iPad, as well as the login password for the other device on the same ID.

in this situation the child had an original iPad air2 using his Apple ID, gets a new Apple iPad now. When transferring it asked for the 6 digit code to "Gavin's iPad" as the information donor iPad. After evaluating this it moved to the next step and asked for the "Gavin's iPad" OLD password. His password changed once to unlock the iPad during it's life so we tried the old passcode... didn't work. I tried every 6 digit passcode I've ever used on any of our iPads... didn't work. I tried the basic 6 digit codes 000000 and 123456 and 111111 and literally every other iteration of a "stock passcode" ..... didn't work. We, like I"m sure many people, have about 10-12 passcodes passwords etc we use so if you figure one out you have access to half our stuff so it's not like I have secret notebook someplace with hundreds of unique 32 bit passwords or alphanumeric coded 6 digit codes.

My opinion is its completely stupid on Apples part if I have verified the Apple ID password, the passcode to unlock the device, and verified with a 6 digit code 2FA that goes to my phone that they do not make that sufficient evidence I am the owner. Apple support also was zero help and just passed it off as "a glitch" with the servers with no ETA on a fix and literally told me to just keep trying and maybe it will work or call us back.

I buy apple products because they are easy to use when you have the ecosystem. This is not easy and especially when it involves kids that get this **** for Christmas and are jumping up and down begging you to fix it for them and days pass where it doesn't work.
