Hi all,
A friend of mine has shared his calendar with me which would help me out lots knowing what's going on at his restaurant.

Problem is, he is mac everything, and I'm not (not that I have anything against them). He shared his calendar with me which I received an e-mail to join his calendar. When I click on it, it's asking for an iCloud login.

I've tried for the past half hour to create one, but to no avail. I now have an apple ID and have installed the iCloud on my windows machine, but it's giving me an error - This Apple ID is valid but is not an iCloud account.

How can I create an iCloud account so I can view this calendar?

Have you tried just going to http://icloud.com and logging in there?

Yep, I get: Set up iCloud on a device to use iCloud.com
Your Apple ID must be used to set up iCloud on an iOS or OS X device before you can use iCloud.com

There must be a way around that. I refuse to believe that Apple would setup a collaboration tool (with windows accessibility) which would force me to purchase an Apple device.

I'm fairly certain you need either an iOS device or a Mac to setup an iCloud account. After it's set up, you won't need the device to manage it anymore. Ask your friend if he has a device you can borrow to set it up. Worst case, buy an iPod touch, set up the iCloud account, wipe the device, then return it.

Welcome to MacRumors!

You'll need to set up iCloud with an iOS device or Mac before you can use the website to manage your account.
